Colin Johnson - Our man in America

Colin Johnson - Our man in America

We thought we could shine the spotlight on one of the more recent additions to our FoundOcean team. Colin Johnson re-joined us last year … he actually worked for us before when he was a youngster fresh out of Uni, and now he is back, this time as our Regional Manager for the Americas.

Colin hails from the small village of Goleen, in County Cork, Ireland. After studying Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering at Munster Technological University, he worked at FoundOcean for five years, initially as a Project Engineer, moving into project management and becoming Engineering Manager, spending a lot of time offshore working on projects.

In 2015, Colin moved back home to Cork, where his fiancée was living, and this change very much appealed from a lifestyle aspect. He took up a project engineering role, but soon moved into the realms of sales and business development.

Fast forward a few years and now he is back! Colin will be re-locating to the USA in mid-2022 to run the offices of FoundOcean Inc. in Houston, Texas. There is even the possibility of a second office in New England, which is fast becoming a hub for the renewable energy sector.

Colin went out to the States for three weeks in December, and he had a jam-packed agenda. He attended the International WorkBoat Show https://www.workboat.com/international-workboat-show in New Orleans, an event showcasing the latest developments in marine and offshore equipment and service offerings, and he says there were lots of good people to meet, a real buzz, and some great talks on offshore wind. Then he had a run of meetings with our GOM based clients, and also visited New England to talk to various offshore-wind-focused clients and suppliers.

Now that he is back in Europe for a few months, Colin is doing lots of market planning for the Americas. FoundOcean has been involved in the Americas energy sector since the 80s, and we first opened our offices in Houston in 2013. Now, like so many other companies, we are part of that transition to renewable energy.  It is a really exciting time to be in offshore wind, and Colin is really looking forward to moving out to the USA and FoundOcean being well-placed to bid on the many upcoming projects planned across the continents of North and South America.
