Tides and currents cause erosion of the seabed adjacent to solid objects. This erosion is known as scour and affects the stability and integrity of pipelines, cables and subsea structures.

ScourMat stops erosion and helps to reinstate the seabed around the structure. The ScourMat fronds open out to form a fan-like array which slows down the local current and causes suspended particulate matter to settle.Over time, the ScourMat becomes engorged with sand and sediment, reinstating the seabed with natural components. This fibre-reinforced bank will then resist further erosion.

ScourMat is designed to be diver-friendly and installation is simple and cost-effective. ScourMat is maintenance free as the polypropylene fronds will not degrade in seawater. The components are inert and will have no adverse effect on marine life or the environment.

ScourMat can also be used inland for scour protection for bridge foundations, estuaries and river beds.

Concrete Matresses

Concrete mattresses consist of concrete blocks linked together with non-degradable rope. They are flexible to the contours of the seabed and the structure it is protecting by placing the mattress over the structure. Concrete mattresses have also been used to protect trenched cables from damage above. FoundOcean provides two types of concrete mattress: MassivMesh and FlexiWeight.

MassivMesh consists of hexagonal concrete blocks linked together with high strength non-degradable polypropylene rope; it is able to flex in all directions.

FlexiWeight consists of hexagonal concrete logs linked together with high strength nondegradable polypropylene rope; it is flexible in one direction.
