FoundOcean, the subsea and offshore cementing specialist for the global energy construction industries, has successfully completed the Leman jacket repair of Shell Leman AD1 platform, foundation pile grouting for DONG energy Walney Offshore Windfarm Offshore Substation Installation P1 and Flooded Member Detection inspection for Talisman Energy Tartan Alpha in May 2010.
A supply vessel struck the Leman AD1 Platform on in December 2007. The ship struck the jacket both above and below the waterline, causing damage to the jacket leg and adjacent brace members. Offshore inspections were carried out to investigate the damage caused. The surveys revealed extensive damage resulting in repairs being required. Shell contracted FoundOcean to grout two replacement horizontal members and two subsea diagonal braces.
Volker Staal en Funderingen bv contracted FoundOcean to pile grout four foundations of Substation P1 for the Walney Offshore Windfarm. The Walney Offshore Windfarm is located 15km west of Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria. The project consists of Walney 1 and Walney 2 each with 51 - 3.6MW turbines. The total area of the development is some 73km2. Four 60-metre long steel piles were placed in the corners of the jacket and once vertically levelled, the jacket and piles were grouted together. The grouting aspect of the project was completed in record time, taking just 8 hours. Senior Project Manager for DONG energy Jens Hansen said that this was a very important milestone for the Walney project. Read the full DONG energy press release here.
Tartan Alpha is a drilling/production platform located in block 15/16 of the British sector of the North Sea. The platform stands in 140m of water approximately 187km northeast of Aberdeen. The platform comprises a conventional four-legged steel jacket and was installed in 1979 with first production in January 1981. FoundOcean were contracted to carry out FMD inspection services on 343 of the members.
